Congratulations 2011 Scholarship Recipients!
Since its establishment in 2004, the San Diego Chapter Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $40,000 to deserving students in the environmental field. This year, we received 22 applications, an unprecedented number, from talented and very well qualified undergraduate and graduate students attending local universities. Because of the overwhelming number of applications and due to the amount of money raised this year and last year, the San Diego Chapter of AEP is thrilled to announce that we will be presenting an additional scholarship this year. We would not be able to do this without the generous sponsorships and support for this event. The San Diego Chapter of AEP is pleased to be presenting three $2,000 scholarships to local students. The scholarship winners will also receive a one-year membership to AEP.

Our three $2,000 scholarship winners for 2011 are Jared Castro, Katherine Godfrey and Jaime Speed Rossiter.

JARED CASTRO is a senior at UC San Diego majoring in Environmental Systems with a focus in ecology, behavior, and evolution. After serving 10 years in the U.S. Navy as a helicopter search-and-rescue medic, he decided to pursue an education that could enable him to assist the Department of Defense in minimizing the military’s environmental impact while still achieving security and training goals.

KATHERINE GODFREY is a senior at the University of San Diego, studying Environmental Studies and Chemistry. After graduation this December, Katherine plans to continue living in San Diego, with aspirations to attend graduate school and pursue a career focusing on renewable energy sources and sustainable energy.

JAIME SPEED ROSSITER is currently a student of the joint-doctoral program in Geography at SDSU and UC Santa Barbara. For her doctoral research she is interested in evaluating the potential success of conservation policy as a whole, weighing the biological and the social equally.

Congratulations to Jared, Katherine and Jaime!
