A well-established global consulting firm is seeking a Senior Level Biologist for a Southern California location, which is primarily focused on work in the renewable and traditional energy arenas (wind, solar, hydropower, and transmission lines).

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8-10 years experience managing biological resources staff, providing support for environmental assessment and planning projects in California, as well as possess excellent project management and team leadership skills. Among the qualities needed are a demonstrated excellence in technical writing and editing, and strong communication/oral presentation skills. The successful candidate will have experience in the management of CEQA and NEPA permitting projects, and possess direct experience with large-scale renewable energy and transmission line projects. Extensive experience in implementing and ensuring required compliance under the California Endangered Species Act and Federal ESA is necessary. The candidate may also be required to conduct field work in remote locations under harsh environmental conditions that may include walking or traveling long distances under moderate load.

Requirements:
• Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) in applicable field (biological sciences, wildlife ecology/management, or closely related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years experience managing biological resource staff.
• Regional work experience with wildlife species and habitats in California ecosystems.
• Biological resources-related mitigation design, monitoring, and evaluation plans
• Land use related environmental impact analysis and agency consulting for regulatory compliance and permitting (NEPA, ESA, MBTA, CWA, and State equivalents).

Desired qualifications: Prior experience in environmental consulting and energy infrastructure projects or land use planning is highly desired, as well as possession of state and federal individual permit(s) to capture/handle protected species.
This is a permanent position that provides a starting salary of $90,000- $120,000 annually, depending upon experience, plus an attractive benefit package.

Our talented team of scientists, planners, and other experts assist clients ranging from government agencies to non-profits to private industry.

ESA is seeking Associate & Senior-level Biologists to work in either our Los Angeles or San Diego offices.

Senior Biologist Applicants should be able to work both independently and as part of a team, manage biological resource assessment projects, and have a working knowledge of biological databases. The successful applicant will be working on a variety of project types, including water and wastewater infrastructure, commercial and residential development, airports, energy resources, transportation, land management, monitoring, and restoration.

Senior Biologist Requirements
• Minimum education of a B.A. /B.S. in biology, botany, ecology, or wildlife with 3 to 8 years of experience in biology resources in Southern California. A Masters Degree is preferred.
• Strong background and experience in conducting field surveys for a variety of state and federally listed plant and wildlife species.
• Experience preparing technical reports, including biological sections for CEQA/NEPA, FESA/CESA, and CWA Section 404 documents.
• Applicable USFWS and DFG permits for the handling of listed species, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals.
• Strong technical writing skills, GIS experience, and consulting experience.

Main job duties for Associate Biologist:
Conduct vegetation/habitat mapping, presence/absence surveys for sensitive plants and animals, and assist in wetland delineations; prepare biological resource components of environmental analyses, support permit applications for the Corps of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife Service, California Fish and Game, and the California Regional Water Quality Control Board; and assist in the design and implementation of habitat restoration projects.

Associate Biologist Requirements:
• 1-3 years related work experience;
• Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, zoology or botany (graduate degree preferred);
• GIS skills consistent with mapping and report preparation;
• Experience working with biological resources, wetlands, and the regulatory arena, especially in the field of environmental consulting;
• Experience with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) preferred but not required;
• Strong technical writing skills and critical thinking; and
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
